The client
Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC) insures defined-benefit pension schemes — paying the pensions of hundreds of thousands of policyholders, with tens of billions under management. In that business, policy data isn’t admin. It is the business: every reserve calculation, every investment decision and every monthly payment depends on it being right.
The problem
Policy data arrived from many ceding schemes in many shapes, and managing it involved significant manual work — slow, expensive, and a source of risk in a heavily regulated environment. PIC needed a standardised way to manage policy data across its book: a single platform to automate the manual load and raise data quality, feeding the models that balance reserves against investments.
What EBI built
After winning a competitive consultancy selection process, EBI designed and delivered PIC’s Policy Data Management platform — taken from heads of terms through staged transition states into production, with Azure-based test and acceptance environments and iterative reporting releases along the way.
The platform standardises how policy data is taken on, validated and managed. Mortality data and environmental factors are built into the model, so pension payments can be profiled per policyholder — and the firm can make better-informed decisions about reserves and investment across the whole fund.
The outcome
In the client’s own words above: one of the largest applications they have in production, automating a significant element of manual work, with significant productivity, accuracy and data-quality improvements. The project moved into a long-term support agreement on completion — the build became a partnership.
Why it matters if you’re reading this
This is what “bespoke” means at EBI: not a widget, but the load-bearing system at the centre of a regulated business — delivered through a competitive selection against established consultancies, and still standing.
